The good 'ole SC State Fair! Roger really dispises this place (but he was a trooper and tagged along because he knew the boys and I would have fun), but I LOVE it. I know I shouldn't...it's dirty, crowded, and filled with Walmartians (aka those crazy looking people you see all over Walmart), but I have so many fun memories from here! Growing up my Granddaddy used to take us to the fair. We'd get out of school early (big gasp, I know!), and we'd meet him nearby at "Red's" house (was that his name???) and go. Not really sure why we met at that guy's house now that I am thinking about it because that man didn't come with us...but anyway! The smells of all the yummy foods (all of them!) and riding all the rides was a highlight of the year for us growing up! We always had fun, and we always walked out of there with cotton candy! So, I guess I like going now because it was always a good time when I was little. We don't go every year now, in fact, we haven't gone since Logan was 10 months old and Austin was 5 (NOT that they are deprived...we've done Carowinds, Six Flags, Bush Gardens, or Disney each year). So, it was time for a visit to the fair! And, I am glad Logan got well wnough for us to go (he's been sick the past couple of days...in fact, we even got a phone call from a DHEC nurse concerned....but it turned out not to be anything more than his usual allergy/coughs/Upper Respiratory/Ear Infection and NOT pertussis!!! YAY!). Here's a few shots from our family fun at the fair...
All my guys walking in!
The first "ride" we did, and I had to do it with Logan for him to be able to do it. The climb to the top was no joke! Boy, I'm out of shape! As you can tell from the picture, we're all smiles and they loved it!
Logan was very happy he could DRIVE these bumper cars after not being big enough to ride the ones at Carowinds this summer!
Austin LOVES most all rides and has a very high tolerance for craziness! He smiled the entire time on this one, and he even tried waving as he flew by each time...too muc spinning for me to catch him with the camera!
This was the BEST $10 spent all day! Riding on the elephant made both boys SMILE from ear to ear! How many people can say they actually have riden on an elephant???
Even though the straw is party covering Logan's face, this is one of my favorite pictures of them from today. They both wanted one of these slushy things from the minute they saw them, but we said they had to wait until we were on our way out to get one so we didn't get stuck holding it ourselves. They chose this over cotton candy, candy apples, and elephant ears...they do not take after their momma in this department!!!
Shortly after this shot we made our way out. We detoured to get some fried mushrooms (ALWAYS a favorite!). We also caved into the fried "junk food" assortments by trying a Candy Combo (snickers, reese cup, and oreos). I thought the snickers was YUMMY (but way too rich to eat more than a couple bites), but I wasn't impressed with the Reese Cup (surprising because they are normally one of my favorite candies). Austin and Roger both said the Oreos were good! While we nibbled, we watched the Elephant Encounter show right at the gate. It was actually quite good and very informative about the two different types of elephants (so the teacher in me was impressed). We had a good family day of fun together here and then headed over to Aunt Rikki's for Robert's birthday party next....which will bring me to my next blog post!
